Fill Power

No matter what type of down is used to fill the duvet, every time when you are buying a down duvet, you have to look at its fill power. Fill power is such a strong indicator of quality that even if you look at nothing else, it would be all enough to figure out the quality of the duvet.

Fill power refers to the filling power of the fibers of the down. The more dense and large fibers are, higher will be their fill power. Down duvets having high fill power are way better than those will low fill power in terms of:

·       Softness
·       Weight
·       Warmth

If you intend to buy a duvet that is warm, soft and very lightweight, you need to choose a down duvet that has a high fill power preferably over 600.
Canadian down duvet with high fill power are obviously expensive than those with low fill power. This means if you are interested in buying a high quality duvet with high fill power, you must be ready to invest serious money on the duvet.

Despite the fact that fill power is a very strong and powerful indicator of quality of a down duvet but it is not the only indicator, there are quite a few others too.

Construction

The next thing, after fill power, you must look at it is the construction of the duvet, that is how it is made. Down duvets are made in two different ways.
First type of construction is simple where duvet is sewed from its four sides and the down keeps on moving freely inside the duvet. You can imagine a major drawback of this type of duvet. Goose down inside the duvet will keep on moving from one place to another and this can turn out to be very irritating especially in those cold winter nights.

Second type of duvet construction is known as baffle-box where duvet is along with the down is sewed finely all over. The down is stitched to the duvet case. This type of duvet is more reliable and better as down cannot move and thus it will not stick to sides rather it will always remain distributed evenly.

So you have two types of canadian goose down duvets to choose from. Of course, baffle-box construction is better but it comes at a high cost.

As soon as you purchase a canadian goose down duvet, it is recommended to purchase matching similar sized duvet covers too so that you can protect your duvets right from day one. This will eventually increase the life of your duvet to a great extent.
